Adele
Katele (b. 1913) created all her sculptures while living in Canada until 1992. Her
sculptures were displayed at the World Artists Exhibitions in Toronto in
1985-1988, even receiving awards. She would hold 2 or 3 exhibitions of
her works each year, usually at the Resurrection or Lithuanian Martyrs
Catholic Churches in Toronto, or at the Lithuanian Pensioners
Association. The Lithuanian Community of the United States organized an
exhibition of her works which were demonstrated in a number of American
cities.
Katele's sculptures attract attention by their originality and masterful
way of realization. Their themes cover a wide range of cultural and
historical motifs - religious, philosophical, literary, and national.
All are made of Canadian wood, tree branches, or stumps found in the
Toronto area. Although lacking formal artistic studies, she managed to
present herself as an equal with acknowledged artists of the world.
